tinyurl.com/virtualAREpraxis We are proud to announce that applications are open for our 2020 PRAXIS: Ethnic Studies Institute! Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we are switching to a virtual venue on June 18th and 19th. This year's theme is "Teaching Hope in Dangerous Times". As educators we have seen how our students have suffered and we are designing this institute in order to uplift ourselves and teach from a position of hope, not fear. As critical educators we decided to create our own PD because the professional development we were receiving did not serve the needs of the communities we teach in. It was led by consultants who had very little to no classroom experience. We wanted training that met the needs of educators who not only wanted to teach culturally relevant curriculum but also organize within our communities. Through collaborative process we have developed our own Ethnic Studies/Social Justice professional development model that combines theory and practice (PRAXIS). PRAXIS PD is: 1. Led and developed for social justice educators by social justice educators who teach culturally relevant curriculum and are actively involved in organizing campaigns outside their classrooms and in their communities. 2. Provides a critical pedagogy lens to teacher training and combines it with strategic campaign organizing. 3. Challenges the for-profit PD industry by providing an affordable alternative for professional development that funds the movement in lieu of paying consultants. Cost is $30 for classroom teachers/professors/administrators and $15 for Teacher Ed program students/Community Educators/Activists |
